A group of Forest Hills Central High School students has joined together to support a cause they may have rarely thought about until they lost their friend Zach Myers to suicide on April 16, 2010.

Last week Team Zach gathered at D&W grocery store on Cascade Road asking for donations. They raised more than $600 for the Mental Health Foundation to continue their work to create awareness that mental illnesses are diseases and are treatable.

Team Zach will also be at the Family Fare gas station on Cascade Road from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Saturday, May 14. They will pump customers' gas for a donation to the Mental Health Foundation and will sell T-shirts for $15.

The students also are welcoming anyone who would like to join Team Zach on the ninth annual Stomp Out Stigma Walk for Mental Health, which is scheduled for Saturday, May 21, on the downtown campus of Grand Valley State University.

Those interested can register at www.themhf.org for the walk.

This is definitely a great cause. I'm glad to hear people are taking a positive stance on this.
